Exhibition preview at Salford Art Gallery 18th Feb 2017
A fantastic turn out for the annual exhibition today. It was good to see so many local people supporting the club and viewing the paintings.
The exhibition was opened by Karen Garrido, the ceremonial Mayor of Salford, who spoke highly of the club and mentioned her own art background and interests. She told us that L S Lowry had visited the Art school, where she was studying, and with foresight how she should have purchased one of his paintings when they were selling for 5.00 pounds.
The afternoon started with an excellent introductory speech by Pam Kirk, detailing the history of the club and then Charles Hickson, a professional artist and one of the selectors of the exhibition, spoke of how difficult it had been to select the paintings on show. Carol Parkes, who organized the exhibition, then read out the annual prizewinners and the Mayor presented the winners with their prizes.
Geoffrey Key, the President of the club, presented his award to the winner of the best painting in the exhibition.
